Medals of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020
The presentation of the medals of the Summer Olympic Games “Tokyo 2020” took place on July 24, 2019 – exactly a year before the opening ceremony of the Olympiad. Subsequently, due to the coronaviru pandemic, the time of the game was postponed by 2021 (July 23 – August 8).
On the front side of the medal depicts the traditional goddess of Victory Nick against the background of Athenian Panathinaikos. The image of the goddess is accompanied by the inscription “Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020” (“Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020”) and five Olympic rings.
On the revolving side – the emblem of the Olympic Games “Tokyo 2020” in the form of a chess pattern, symbolizing the diversity of countries and crops combined around the sport.
The design of the medals of the Olympiad in Tokyo went to the work of Juniti Kavanisi, which won in a specially organized national competition with more than four hundred professional designers and students. In the design of medals, according to the author, the concept is embodied, according to which “athletes should seek victory daily to achieve fame. The surface of medals resemble raw stones that were polished and shine now. Medals collect and reflect countless patterns of light, symbolizing the energy of athletes and those who support them. ”
Metals extracted from recycled gadgets were partially used as materials for making medals. The Japanese authorities organized the collection of unnecessary electronics. About four thousand reception points operated throughout the country. In total, more than 79 tons of faulty techniques were collected, including more than six million mobile phones alone. Cameras, portable consoles, laptops and computer components were also accepted. The action allowed to extract 30.3 kg of gold, 4100 kg of silver and 2,700 kg of bronze alloys.
